Microsoft Office Suites are available in several versions. Almost yearly a new version of the software is released with new features that enhance the document, workbook, presentation and email features. Of course, with every new version comes technical support from Microsoft. As newer versions are released and older ones are phased out, technical support for those versions of the software is also phased out. That does not mean that the older versions will no longer work. You can still use the software just as you have been using it. It just means that Microsoft will no longer offer technical support for that version. Microsoft’s entire suite of programs is not covered in our training. However, you will find extremely knowledgeable instructors that also have hands-on experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook. Let’s take a closer look at those particular programs.
Microsoft Word is a word processing program. When you learn word processing, you are also learning skills and techniques that you need to work efficiently on a computer. You can use Microsoft Word to perform Basic word processing tasks such ass writing a memo, a report or a letter. Word can also be used to complete more complex tasks such as creating sophisticated tables, embedding graphics, writing blogs, creating publications and inserting links into other documents and the Internet. Word is a program that you can learn gradually, and then add more advanced skills one at a time.
Microsoft Excel is used to create and analyze data organized into columns and rows. After entering data into a worksheet, you can perform calculations, analyze data to make logical decisions and create charts. You may also construct formulas for mathematical operations or utilize one of the many functions that are already in Excel for your use. For home use, Excel is typically used to create budgets so you can track and manage all of your financial needs in one place.
Microsoft PowerPoint is a presentation software with which you create electronic slide presentations. Good presentation skills enhance your communications --- written, electronic, and interpersonal. In this technology-enhanced world, communicating ideas clearly and concisely is a critical personal skill. PowerPoint makes it easy for one to preset a topic to an audience effectively and precisely. You can use graphics, pictures and themes along with content placed on slides that will be viewed during the presentation.
